This weekend was the dreaded 10 year high school reunion. I wasn't going to go. I wasn't. I had recently reconnected with some of my old friends and we had decided Eff it, it was WAYYY to expensive, we were going to Disney for the Wine and Food fest instead.
Which is still happening next weekend.
But somehow, I ended up going to my 10 year reunion cocktail on Friday night anyway. It took a bit of persuasion from my best friend Angie's part. Some furious text messaging on my part to one of closest guy friends Carlos begging him to meet me there so I wouldn't face the world alone (which he totally didn't do, lame) and some scrambling to find an outfit to wear seeing as I would be spending the weekend at my parents (as per usual these days) due to Bailey having surgery on Saturday and didn't really pack an appropriate outfit for impressing people who I hadn't seen in 10 years.
I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised. I got there fairly early with Angie and her husband Juan and the three of us were having a grand 'ol time just between us. Then the party really started. Little by little the place got even more crowded and the drinks started flowing. By the time we left at 11:30 ( a fairly respectable hour due to the Bailes early morning surgery) we were several beers in, had mingled our asses off, reconnected with several dozen friends, laughed, joked around, took pictures.
But the best moment came as I left, I ran into an old friend who I haven't seen since graduation. Honestly, seeing him and hearing how well he is doing made my night. I couldn't hug him tight enough, practically started crying. I was still smiling when I got home. Overall it was a successful night and I am really glad I was persuaded to go.
I can't wait until next weekend and our mini vacation to Disney...I anticipate it will be like a throwback trip like the one we went on in the 8th grade. Fun times all around.
P.S
Bailey's surgery went well, her scar is pretty nasty and I won't get the results back for a week but she's doing ok. All I can do now is wait.
