Five boyfriends are better than one

Thursday morning, I called SLP to chat with him...I was slightly surprised that the first words out of his mouth weren't "Happy Birthday" but he seemed a bit preoccupied and I imagined he was pretty busy being that I had just left him the afternoon before.

We chatted for a minute and hung up. He was going into work that afternoon so I figured we'd talk before the day was out and he would surely say Happy Birthday at some point. Hours went by, I laid in bed watching tv, visited with my mother and Grandma and still no SLP. 5 o'clock rolled around and I finally picked up the phone to call him...I guess patience isn't always one of my virtues. Again he seemed a bit out of it, and when I asked what was up he said he'd been working on something for my birthday all day and he was tryingto finish it before he had to head to work.

There I was, thinking it had slipped his mind and in fact he'd been working on something for me all day. I like to think this is a carry over from my relationship with my ex-husband, he was famous for forgetting my birthday and showing up the next day with a huge make up gift. Which for the record, never made up for his lack of interest in his wife. But I should know better, SLP is different. Always has been.

A few days went by, SLP was working non stop and I hadn't heard anything about "the project". Yesterday he told me he was going to finish it up and send it over, but it wouldn't make sense because it wasn't my birthday anymore. As I laid in bed last night, talking to him I received an e-mail with a sound file attached. The file was titled "Jossie's Birthday Song". He asked that I PLEASE listen to it with headphones on because it was ridiculously embarrassing. Now, I should preface this by saying that SLP is very musical, like very musical, and has sent me videos of himself singing me silly little ditties. He has a good voice. He doesn't like to think so, but he does. Even so I didn't know what to expect.

What I heard when I pressed play had me smiling from ear to ear. He had spent hours recording himself in several different voices, speaking to me, as background noise, chatter. He overlaid it with his voice sending me a special birthday message and then all 5+ versions of SLP sang me happy birthday. It was by far and away the best present I have ever received. I heard it 4 times in a row and then played it for my sister, who heard it twice with a huge smile on her face.

In my 27 years and countless relationships, I have never received a better birthday present. Ever. So thank you P face, it was awesome.

That does sound awesome. I don't think many people can expect to receive a multi-track recorded birthday song in their lives.

That's so sweet! It's so thoughtful that he took time to create something for your birthday that you'd love. Those are the best kinds of gifts.
